The AARE Language and Literacy SIG will host an online symposium on Multimodal Language and Literacy Education on Thursday 4 September 4-6pm, bringing together leading scholars and practitioners to reflect on advancements in the field and to explore its future directions.
Multimodal language and literacy education is increasingly recognised as essential in a world where communication takes place across multiple modes - visual, auditory, spatial, digital, gestural, and beyond - and expands how we understand meaning-making in contemporary contexts to support diverse learners. This symposium will showcase advances in both research and practice, while opening up participant discussion on emerging directions and critical challenges.
We are delighted to announce Professor Len Unsworth as our featured speaker. As one of the founding figures in the field of Multimodality, Professor Unsworth is internationally recognised for his contributions to educational linguistics, semiotics, and literacy education. Drawing on decades of scholarship, Professor Unsworth will share key insights to inspire and guide research and pedagogies in this dynamic area.
Additional speakers will be announced soon. The session will include a Q&A and open discussion.
Please register prior to attending. A meeting link will be shared ahead of the event. We look forward to welcoming you!
