Abstract:
Counter-storytelling or counter-narrative is a methodological device to challenge hegemonic master narratives. Counter-storytelling has the potential to “jar the comfortable dominant complacency that is the principal anchor dragging down any incentive for reform” (Delgado, 1995, p. 2438). Counter-storytelling has the potential to create a generative space for transformative, anti-racist action. In this paper, we discuss the opportunities afforded by counter-storytelling, when the stories are our own, research participants’, composite, or works of fiction.
