Abstract:
Previous studies into the effect of the school and the classroom environment on a student's decision to study science or engineering has been hampered by the analytic techniques. In this paper, results of a logistic regression analysis are presented for the outcome measure: student career choice (science/engineering) or student career choice (other). These findings discuss not only the statistical technique, but also the importance of student satisfaction with the school, classroom environment scales and self-concept on the student's career choice.

The rural schools participating in this study revealed some interesting reasons for choosing to stay in the country, rather than move up and out.
