Priorities and Future Directions for Educational Research

AARE together with the Academy of Social Sciences Australia (ASSA) on the 5th August 2024 hosted a national Roundtable on ‘Priorities and Future Directions for Educational Research’. Peak bodies, educational researchers, professional associations and representatives from research organisations met to discuss the challenges and opportunities for Australian education research over the next decade.

A Report from the Roundtable identified a shared focus on justice, equity and excellence for all; a skilled and resilient workforce; and world-class, connected research capability. The Report also outlines next steps towards developing a strategic roadmap and decadal plan for educational research.

The idea for the Roundtable arose out of several meetings and discussions among members that found education research in Australia to be under-resourced relative to other disciplines and as sometimes struggling for visibility and impact. This is despite the calibre and breadth of Australian education research and its enormous potential for valuable evidence and insights into education policy and practice.

A working group, comprising representatives from different research and professional associations, is now mapping out the workplan and consultation process to develop the strategic road map.

AARE will update members via our newsletters and this website on progress and opportunities for input.
